R.I. dance instructor charged in rape of 15-year-old

A Rhode Island dance instructor was arrested at his home in Massachusetts last weekend and charged with raping a 15-year-old girl, authorities said today.

The instructor, Keith L. Sampson, 29, who had worked at Denise's Dance Studio in Johnston, was arrested soon after the police went to his home in South Easton, Mass., and found the alleged victim, said Easton Deputy Police Chief Allen R. Krajcik.

The girl, a student from a dance school in Rhode Island, was taken to Brockton Hospital where she was treated and later released, according to Krajcik. Krajcik said he was unable to specify the name of the particular Rhode Island dance school where the victim had been a student.

Sampson has worked at Denise’s Dance Studio at 80 Greenville Ave. in Johnston.

According to the police, Sampson brought the girl to his home at 34 Pinebrook Lane, in South Easton, gave her alcohol and then sexually assaulted her. The girl sent a text message to a friend in Rhode Island who reported the incident to Warwick police, Sampson said.

Easton police received word around 2:30 a.m. Saturday and immediately sent several officers to Sampson’s home, he said. Sampson was also charged with drugging an individual for the purpose of sexual intercourse.

The dance studio’s owner, Denise DiPippo, told Channel 12 that she was shocked to learn of Sampson’s involvement in the case.

“I’m a very concerned mom,” she said in a report posted on station’s Web site. “I teach each student like a mom would teach their own. Thirty years I’ve been in the business and this never happened to me. He fooled everyone. All the kids loved him and he turned out to be something he wasn’t. He put a false picture out to all these children. I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else. I don’t ever want to see him again.”

Sampson was arraigned in Taunton District Court and held on $50,000 bail, Krajcik said.

Why didn't you include the unreleased dance studio name a third time, in case anyone missed the first two times?

The owner was shocked....Come on, I find that hard to believe that she did not know about the prior statutory rape charges that he was suppose to stand trial for next week.

It's sad that the justice system takes 3 years to bring a rape case to trial as in the case of Keith Sampson arrested in 2004. Perhaps if the system had been more swift, Keith would already be labeled a sex offender and in jail. I hope it does not take 3 more years to bring this case to trial. I feel very sad for this victim and her family. The dance studio was made aware of the charges against Keith before his arrest and at the time of his arrest.

When Keith was arrested in 2005,detectives were given the names of many of the studios where he worked, including Denise's Dance Studio. The studios were contacted by law enforcement as part of their investigation. In addition to that, a letter was sent to each studio informing them of the rape. Denise's Dance Studio received a letter.

Keith is an exellent liar. I know him personally and he can fool people while still making himself sound sincere. As far as the previous arrest and the letter sent out to the dance studios, I'm sure he turned the situation around in some way, explaining how it was a misunderstanding and he wasn't at fault. Just thought I would share.

Projo..You should mention Denise's Dance Studio as many times as you want.
Yes, Keith is a liar and a rapist, but this is a woman who we all put trust in to teach our daughters. We were asked many times to drop off the girls and leave and many times I would stay..call me crazy, but I did.
Poor girls who need to go through knowing that this man was a part of their life and they could of possibly looked up to him.
Poor victim of his last rape and the one in 2005, poor fiance and little baby daughter, but not poor "Denise's dance studio!"
Caution mothers....all I have to say is CAUTION!

Everyone needs to stop pointing the finger at everyone else and point it where it belongs...AT KEITH!!! It is sad that it had to happen again, but out of something bad came something good. Keith was exposed for who he REALLY is and he is where he needs to be for it to not happen again. If this didn't occur at Denise's,it would DEFINITELY happened elsewhere. It has a countless number of times. It is over,he is DONE and we all hope he stays put for life!!!!

People need to stop blaming Denise's Dance Studio. He taught at several other studios in MA at the same time he was at Denise's. He just recently judged a Miss Teen pagent, he judged dance competitions, he did Master classes every Wednesday,he was ALWAYS around children where was everyone else's knowledge of the previous event??? Where was the notification from MA state police to alert EVERYONE he encountered???specially the pagent! No BCI checks there. Pretty scary!!!

Under the law, you are innocent until proven guilty. That is why there could be no official alert sent out by law enforcement. However, if a studio or pagent ran a CORI on Keith, it would have revealed he had charges pending. Every organization that deals with children should always run a CORI on every adult working within it. Now, if there is justice, Keith will be registered as a sex offender, organizations still need to run the CORI to know that, however.

disgusted dancer | January 16, 2008 8:17 PM link

I used to dance at denises dance studio \. I danced there for 11 years. I quit right after I heard about this incident. Of course I was disgusted because he was like a secound father to me. We had sleepovers at his house .. I slept there with like 8 other girls..and my other dance teacher, whom is his girlfriend. I loved that man. He was like a 2nd dad to me. I loved the person I knew .. but hate the person who he became. Please stop sending bad messages. It hurts us dancers that knew him. Please Stop!

SmallFrie | March 13, 2008 12:47 PM link

I am so happy that he was sentenced to serve time for his first (I hope) offence, I can't wait till they serve him with the second. I hope he has to serve many many years so by the time he does get to gets out his daughter will be old enough to know and understand how sick he really is. I know that if I had a baby by this man he would have never met his child because I would never put my kid at any risk knowing of his sickness. I hope his fiance wakes up one day and sees the light, this man is not worth it, there are many other good men out there.

If there are any other girls out there that have had any form of contact with Keith that was innapropriate I hope that come foward before it is too late. There is no need to feel ashamed or embarrased becuase it is not the victims fault it is the fault of the sick bastard that you put your trust into. Parents I encourage you as the grown person to speak to your kids if they had any form of contact with Keith at some time or another and if needed to please come foward.

I do not feel bad in any way, shape or form for Denise, Keith, Marissa or the baby. I feel awful for the victim this just happened to. I am very close to her and she has just about given up on everything. Our life now consists of Doctor's visits and medication to help us get thru this. I found it very strange for Keith to be kissing young girls on the lips when my child first started there. I to stayed at every dance class. He was 29, she was 15!!! Why she was picked to be the victim, I will never understand. But, I guess someone knew that she would be strong enough to bring him down. My thoughts go out to the victim and the victim's family.

Wait a minute (to Smallfrie).....you had sleepovers at the home of your 29 yr old dance instructor? What the hell were your parents thinking? Girlfriend present or not, I don't get this at all.
