Update: Speed a factor in Exeter fatal accident
Excessive speed was likely a factor in an accident last night that killed a 21-year-old Exeter man.
The accident reconstruction has not been completed, but Zachary Woods was driving "at least twice the limit" down Mill Pond Road when his vehicle crashed, according to Sgt. Nicholas Tella.
Tella said that at about midnight Woods lost control, driving into a large rock about 500 feet south of the intersection of Mill Pond Rd. and Liberty Road. The vehicle flipped over several times.
Woods was ejected, Tella said, which usually a sign that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Woods had a faint pulse when rescue crews arrived, but he was pronounced dead at Kent Hospital at about 12:40 a.m.

i live around the corner from the woods family. i knew something was up,this a.m., while passing their home en route to work. last night, as i lay in bed reading, i heard the sound of squealing tires. it's sometimes difficult to tell the exact location of noises, around these parts, because it's such an open expansive area; i knew it was close. shortly after hearing the squeal of tires, i heard police sirens. i said some prayers. my sons know this family, and i have seen zachary, over the years, in and around the area. my sons are his same relative age, and i cannot imagine losing any one of them, at any age. my heart is broken for the woods family. i walk on millpond road, and yawgoo valley road daily, often at night. it is not unusual to see people, and not just teens, driving over the speed limit. often, drivers ignore the stop sign, at the intersection of these two roads. i am always upset by this. i find it difficult to imagine why so many drivers ignore such basic fundamental rules of the road. losing a loved one is too high a price to pay, in any event; especially when it is something that could be so easily avoided.
