Magistrate Almond tapped to succeed Judge Torres

President Bush has nominated Lincoln D. Almond, a U.S. magistrate judge in Rhode Island and son of the former Republican Gov. Lincoln C. Almond, to succeed Ernest Torres as a full-time U.S. District Court judge in Providence.

Almond's nomination has been sent to the U.S. Senate, according to a White House statement this evening.

Torres left full-time service and assumed senior judge status.

This is great news and I hope to God Linc is confirmed. I worked with Linc for many years and found him to be one of the most intellegent, thoughtful and decent human beings I ever met. By thoughtful, I mean that he truly considered all possibilities when giving advice, and that advice was always tremendously sound. I liked his father, but I liked Linc much more. Linc will be the one of the best Federal Judges RI has ever seen. I'm sure of it.

Am I missing something here... The guy has been a judge all of 3 years... prior to that he was in private practice and a law clerk.. Tell me again why this guy is "The Best" we could pick..

Well, isn't this interesting. If he wasn't Lincoln C. Almond's son, he would not be considered for this position.
