Still no contract for Tiverton teachers

Tiverton teachers and the school committee have yet to reach a contract agreement.

According to Patrick Crowley, spokesman for the teachers' union, the union's offer last night was not accepted by the committee at a meeting that lasted until 11 p.m.

Crowley said an outside arbitrator may come in to set the terms of a new contract.

The teachers union held a one-day strike in early September, and voted two weeks ago to perform only duties officially in their current contract.

Of course what Mr. Crowley is leaving out is that the union actually offered a HIGHER salary increase later in the evening than they did earlier in the day. Once they began negotiating in bad faith there was little option left but to go to arbitration. The NEA feels that they can continue to ride the gravy train on the backs of the taxpayers. That is unrealistic and perhaps it's time for the union rank-and-file to consider some new leadership that has a grasp of reality.

Actually, that is untrue. Besides, how would you know what was offered and when? As far as I know, there is no one named Patrick on the school committee. I seem to have seen that "grasp of reality" line other places..... I wonder...

Shuffling monies from one pocket to another doesn't make for a cost 'savings', Pat.

I'm hearing about a teacher walkout in Tiverton. I can't wait to hear about how that action is 'All about the children'. I hope they fire every last teacher and hire adults.
