A wrecking ball slams into the front wall of the building that once housed the headquarters for the Providence police and fire departments in LaSalle Square this morning as a crew from A.A. Building Wrecking of Johnston begins work on the demolition of the structure. (Click on the image to see a larger version.)

It's just until they secure the funding for the new building.... of course, that won't be until, I dunno, 2011.

Typical RI... What do you bet that the inspector who declared this place a safety hazard will be driving a new car soon with vanity plates that read "Thks TPG"

Hard to get nostalgic over an ugly building, unmaintained by the city, on prime real estate in the heart of downtown, better used as anything else-parking lot included-until it can be properly developed by someone who has the vision and where-with-all to do it.
