Conn. man accused of con scheme nabbed in R.I.
WARWICK -- A Connecticut man accused of defrauding illegal Irish immigrants out of millions of dollars faces an extradition hearing today after being arrested at a hotel near T.F. Green Airport.
The Hartford Courant reports that 55-year-old Ralph Cucciniello was charged yesterday on an arrest warrant issued in Connecticut with 59 counts of larceny and one count of racketeering.
He's being held on $3.5 million bond and faces a hearing in Kent County Court to answer whether he will waive extradition back to Connecticut, according to the Courant.
Cucciniello is accused of posing as a lawyer affiliated with Yale University in New Haven and swindling Irish immigrants with promises of helping them gain U.S. citizenship.
A lawyer representing Cucciniello in New York declined to comment last night.
