Elisabeth and Timothy Hasselbeck walk through the Booksellers Area of the White House as they arrive for the white-tie state dinner last night in honor of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. On The View this morning, Elisabeth Hasselbeck said she had worn the white cape at her wedding and decided to wear it again because "why not? It's a special event."
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- What had to have been one of the most coveted guest lists to be on at the White House this year was limited to 134 people.
Even President Bush's parents -- former President George H. W. Bush and wife Barbara -- didn't make the cut.
But native Rhode Islander Elisabeth Hasselback did.
The current co-host of the TV talk-show The View, and former Survivor finalist, was invited to sit down for dinner last night with Queen Elizabeth II, who has been making a royal visit in honor of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Va.
She and her husband, New York Giants quarterback Timothy Hasselbeck, arrived looking classically glamorous in black and white, with Elisabeth in an outfit she designed herself.
Other guests ranged from Nancy Reagan, wife of the late President Ronald Reagan, to the winning jockey in this past weekend's Kentucky Derby, Calvin Borel.
They dined on Dover sole almondine and saddle of spring lamb, and later listened to a performance by violinist Itzhak Perlman.
Today, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is hosting a former member of the royal family, Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, son of Elizabeth II. The Dutchess of York, better known as Fergie, is a guest co-host on today's View, which started at 11 a.m. on ABC.
The show, of course, kicked off with conversation about the dinner, led by host Rosie O'Donnell, who did note that Ferguson was not invited.
Hasselbeck sat a table at the queen's right, with First Lady Laura Bush and Prince Philip, and next to Bush brother, Jeb Bush. Her husband was at the next table over, with Bush daughter Barbara and jockey Borel.
While Hasselbeck raved about the spring pea soup -- "the best soup I've ever had" -- she also said, "I just ate everything because you have to."
She did get to meet the queen in the receiving line -- "I said hello and thank you."
But she said the biggest moment was having a photo taken with her husband, the Bushes and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
"I might blow it up and make wallpaper out of it," she said.
O'Donnell asked Ferguson, " Do you ever get over that, being with the queen?"
To which the dutchess, known for causing the queen moments of high anxiety, said, "I'm still terrified now."

Thank GOODNESS this made the news! I sure do feel better now. I mean, it gets tiring reading about gas prices, housing issues and struggling families. THIS is the important stuff!
