2 Mass. men face guns, drugs charges in Fall River
FALL RIVER – Two men charged with illegally possessing guns and drugs have today been ordered held in jail for 90 days, according to Massachusetts' Bristol County District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter.
Eric Barnes, 21, of Dorchester, Mass. and Shamusideen Alabi, 21, of Roxbury, Mass., were ordered held after Second District Attorney Paul Machado used the state's ‘’dangerousness’’ law in Fall River District Court.
Each man is charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaces serial numbers, carrying a firearm without a license, firearm violation with three priors, possession of a firearm with a firearms identification card, and possession of a Class D substance, the district attorney’s office said in a news release this afternoon.
The police arrested the suspects on April 2 in Fall River's Corky Row section after a traffic stop.
The Dangerousness Law allows for a defendant to be held without bail for 90 days if he or she is deemed to be dangerous by a court. It then puts the onus on the prosecution to be ready for trail within the 90 days set out by the law.
“Let this case also be a reminder to illegal gun users from outside Bristol County that bringing your firearms to our county will mean you are going to be held without bail, prosecuted promptly and spend years behind bars,” Sutter said in the news release.
