Sheriff's deputies lead Michael Derderian away from the courtoom after his sentencing today to four years in prison on charges stemming from The Station fire.

There could never be any winners in this situation. It was a tragic event, and one that we all hope is never repeated. No one will ever get their "pound of flesh", nor should they.

The Jeff Derderian sentence(if it can be called that) is especially offensive. He was at The Station to do a Television story about unsafe Nightclubs a few days after the Chicago Nightclub stampede that killed many. He was doing this as part of a Sweeps month story for WPRI. If his crocidile tears today reflected real concern for lives lost he as owner of the Station and as reporter for the story on Nightclub safety would have at least told Great White not to use pyrotechnics. Instead he had HIS television cameraman perfectly positioned to capture Great White's fireworks on that fatal night. Since Jeff Derderian will not rot in jail, he should at least rot in the hell of his own guilt.
