Edelman’s address, titled “Stand up for Children Now,” is free and open to the public. It will be in the Salomon Center for Teaching, located on the College Green. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The award-winning author and children’s advocate will deliver Brown’s sixth annual Casey Shearer Memorial Lecture, which was established in memory of a promising young writer and Brown student who died in May 2000, days before he was to graduate from the university. Prior to Edelman’s address, the winners of the annual Casey Shearer Memorial Award for Excellence in Creative Nonfiction will be announced, including a first prize of $1,000.
