Jury selection is set to begin this morning in the murder trial of a former teacher's aide accused of killing a former girlfriend in her Providence apartment.
Lopez had worked for years at the Lima School and as a janitor in the school system; he also frequented Providence School Committee meetings. He also appeared frequently on two local Spanish-language radio stations. Hilario's neighbors say the woman's relationship with Lopez was rocky, and that she had called the police to make Lopez leave several times. However, the police say, there is no record of domestic violence until two days before Hilario was found stabbed to death. When the police found Lopez in a garage, they said they believe he was trying to kill himself with carbon monoxide poisoning. Jury selection is taking place in Superior Court, Providence, with Judge Gilbert V. Indeglia. |
