My neighborhood is not on any tourist itinerary
When tourists visit Jerusalem, my neighborhood probably does not appear on their itinerary. San Simon is simply a nice neighborhood where people live and shop, and raise their kids and work. But, when I tell Jerusalemites where I live, they smile and say, “Ah, there’s a wonderful park there.”
Schiff Gardens, commonly called San Simon Park, is relatively small, but completely delightful: several small playgrounds, public art, outdoor ping-pong tables, and paved paths that weave around large green spaces. When the weather is fine, people stroll and picnic and relax here. It is a lovely oasis of calm in the city.
The park is above street level. When I walk through at just the right time in the evening, I can watch the sun set over the distant hills and the supermarket just below.

Children playing in the park when the weather was still warm and sunny.

One entrance to the park.

Ilene,
Now I am rereading this blog and notice I had missed the information on your neighborhood "San Simon"...This answers my email question! I have read your latest blogs and watched the photos. Especially interesting, though was the Provencal house and the story about Capitaine Dreyfus. The harsh antisemitism of that time period are enlightening about the difficulties of Today's France to assimilate and incorporate its diversities as peacefully and intelligently as it could. A bientot!

Hello. I'm moving to San Simon this week. It does look nice... I'm excited!
It is IMPOSSIBLE to find a zip code for where I'm going to be living though, and I have been trying, for my financial records (work, paycheck, that kind of thing).
Any suggestions?

Shoshana: Welcome to the neighborhood! You asked about information on zip codes. My zip code is 95392 but it might not be the same for where you will be living. I would check directly with the post office (http://web02.postil.com/hpcontent.nsf/EntryHomePage?ReadForm&L=ENor) the Association for Americans and Canadians (http://www.aaci.org.il/).
Thank you for your comment.
