the art of staying out late -- alot

A surprise guest at work brought me a starbucks gift card b/c she had read about my late night (haha). i knew fri. night was going to be fun.

after work lauren and i went to dinner at paragon on thayer st., which was ok..it was so busy b/c of all the grads.

after that around 9 we headed to the dead cat gallery for the show. we were meeting up with some friends from work. cheryls friend mike was displaying some of his work as well as some other stellar artists such as Johnny Chaos.

there were also a few good bands. after buying some artwork the night ended with us heading to jerkys b/c cheryl's boyfriend was playing a show there. well i havent been there in years but i have to say it was an interesting time. we ran into some people i havent seen in a while..and some people that we work with.

i was trying to get home "early" b/c we had marissa's bday party to go to the next day..but of course it ended up being a late night. thank god for my starbucks card! that was my wake up call for work at 9am.

by the end of the day i couldnt believe we were going out again! but it was marissa's party..how could we miss that! later on we headed to the party. we ended up making it an early night b/c we were so tired from the night before.

after catching up on some sleep believe it or not we decide to go out sun. night. D, lauren and i decided to head over to club hell..now let me tell you we havent been out on a sunday night in a while so i knew this would be comical. like i said we end up at club hell where the bouncer told us "you do know we are having a metal show right" well not but whatever, we got our first drink on the house and come to find out my friend who whorks there..his cousin's band was playing so that was cool. after staying for about 2 bands we walked over to the fez..but it was closed..what now.. well jerkys was the next closest place so we decided to try it out.

on the way there i got a surprising text from my friend chris ( the one i met last tues. night) he and his friend jesse came to meet up with the girls and i. i have to say we had alot of fun.

monday was nice to rest and that brings us to today..80's night (haha) who knows where we will end up after that!

tues again! and the big weekend again!

well apparantly i didnt learn my lesson b/c the whole gang and i went out this tues..i promised i would be home no later than 1:30, well that went out the window when i walked in at 7:30ish am and had to shower and walk back out to be at work for 9. so the whole 80's night seems to be an ongoing affair..

i think its so fun b/c no one is trying to portray a hardcore image, everyone is just trying to dance like fools and have a good time..which i love!

so my friend and i ran into these guys we see out often, we decided to chat it up with them..hey they were cute...well they ended up being really cool..and they are both in the same band. random..

i guess they are opening for dear hunter this sat. at the livingroom. not sure if we are going to go yet wich seems diff. for me but it is my friend marissa's bday party and going to her party was def. the number one plan for sat.

well i didn't get home early b/c once the club let out we decided to have a drink with the boys, we were having so much fun before i new it it was early in the am...ugh..but i new id make it thru the day haha.

so im looking forward to friday b/c lauren and i are going to meet up with cheryl at the dead cat gallery in cranston. cheryl's ex is down from LA and putting on an art show, he is also going to be at jerkys thursday doing screen prints of his work on t-shirts (cool)...it should be a really good time...well so thats whats new for now..im going to catch up on some sleep before the big weekend!

when tuesday stays with you all week . . .

what a week!

let me tell ya going out on tuesday made me feel like wend. was fri...and i was pretty much catching up on sleep the whole week.

tuesday was a blast...with work being so busy i was losing track of time...i forgot sat night was the against me concert in boston and i hadn't put in my request to leave early..

but for starters, friday night lauren and i went to herbs and spices to visit my brother at work. herbs and spices is that thai place i was telling you about earlier on main st. EG.

we swore it would be an early night but a bottle of wine later proved different. after my brother got out we all went back to my house to cary on our crazy conversations and grab a night cap.

sat. wasnt as relaxing. app. got messed up and i didnt get out of work until 5:20 when i was suppose to get out at 4:30..D's sister was less than thrilled b/c we were going to be late for the show..to make driving worse, there was a red sox game!

i kept saying dont worry it will work out..they were looking at me like i was crazy. but what did i say we were late but it didn't matter b/c against me got pushed back to 7:30, so everyone was happy.

once the show let out we headed back home...but we missed the exit to prov. b/c it was raining so hard so we drove 45 minutes in the wrong direction..ugh! we ended up making it home by 11pm, which was cool b/c we could still all go out like we had planned.

marc, stephan, lauren, D, and i walked to jullians but it was dead..i guess it was a hit or miss...time was dwindling down so we decided to go to the red fez...i just wanted to go to sleep but hey. after we got there it was cool..we ran into some people we saw at 80's night haha, and D's brother and some friends met us there!

i also ran into one of my clients hmmm...that was interesting..she was def. having a good time!

by 2am i was spent...i was up since 6am! i dont know how i made it through sunday b/c sleep was so minimal.

but ready for the week ahead!

a tuesday night filled with '80s and more

well let me tell you, going out on tuesday makes you feel like the next day is a friday or saturday.

usually i have the day off. but i told my friend nikki that i would come up to her new salon, and take some clients b/c she's been so busy.

now tonight is 80's night at club hell, the whole gang is coming out! lauren and i decided to meet up early...

on my way to prov. i get a phone call from my aunt..my little cousin had a project due and it was to make home-made drums.

now he was getting aggravated b/c what he had wasn't working. after he asked for help i decided to enlist the help of my good friend who actually is on tour right now (he's a drummer). together we came up with some ideas...and i have to say so far so good!

after that lauren and i grabbed drinks at andreas on thayer st. while waiting for the gang. andreas is fun b/c we can sit outside and people watch haha.

well we ended up running into our tattoo artist mike which was cool..and it was him the other day near as220 skateboarding with his friend!

so after d came and met up with us we figured we'd head over and meet everyone else there. when we got there is was dead...but it soon filled up..stephan and marc showed up soon followed by emily and chuck and all his friends. we were having so much fun, we were all dancing like crazy.

while i was ordering another drink this fella next to me was chatting me up..he was a nice guy..and apparently he is some kind of producer/sound guy (it was hard to hear) he worked on family guy and also with green day i guess..kinda cool.

but i have to say my friends and i spent most of the night cracking jokes and dancing.

im glad im not going out for a couple of days. only bc after we got home at around 2am i had to go back to prov to get my car with marc b/c i had left my keys in laurens car...for some reason i totally spaced (haha) well by the time we got back home and settled it was 4am.

ugh i had to drop my car off for 8:15am and work at 9, thank god i was busy today b/c that totally kept me awake well being busy and my coffee of course.

this weekend d her sis and i are going to the against me show in boston and then going to julians i think...it should be fun..i wonder who will be coming out...

busy weekend finally comes to an end

It has been a long weekend...but a fun one.

Friday came so fast and since i wasnt going out b/c i planned on going out sat. night i figured great i can just relax...wrong!

usually i go out in the city but this friday was different. by the time i got home from work my dad was at home and wasnt alone..he brought a friend home from work which i happened to know, well kinda i just knew this kid from bringing my dad coffee from time to time haha.

well we all decided to grab some drinks at this place called fat belly's. its a small irish bar near my house in east greenwich. the food and the drinks are awsome, my dad goes there so much he actually made friends with all the bartenders and cooks there..go figure.

it ended up being a late night b/c we all ended up having a couple beers on the back deck...its just too bad i had to be at work so early..but nothing a good breakfast and coffee wouldnt fix! i had to make sure i was ready for sat. night!

it was something my friends and i were looking forward to all week. lauren and i met d for dinner and drinks at spats on thayer st. thats one of my favorite spots for dinner b/c its such a laid back atmosphere and there is so many different things on the menu.

it was still too early to go out so d went home to finish packing and lauren and i decided to stick around thayer st. we ended up trying to do a little shopping at urben outfitters and ended up with these ridiculous retro sunglasses that crack me up.

after that we ended up at andreas for a drink before we met back up with d and my cousin marc. it was nice to finally be able to sit outside b/c of the nice weather...while sipping on our drinks we were scoping out the scene...lots of people were out and we were talking about how we think thayer st. needs a good casual eclectic bar that has good live music or something...maybe we'll get lucky!

so finally we met up with the rest of the crew at the red fez..a place we havent been since my bday...it was a lot of fun b/c lauren's friend was working, and a whole bunch of our friends ended up showing up! we were all trying to make plans for tues b/c chuck said we have to go to 80's night when its busy b/c its so much fun..so i guess we are giving it another go.

well everyone crashed at my house around 3:30 and marc and i were the only ones who had to work...and let me tell you by the end of the day my fire was out. but i ended up telling one of my clients from LA about 80's night b/c she's into stuff like that..shes here working on a movie and her and some friends she works with are always looking for a fun place to go..tues. club hell should be just the place! and b/c its pay week (haha) i guess we are all going out this weekend..

where to go that is the question!

a crazy tuesday night

so NJ (bamboozle) was a blast! Not only was there a ton of great bands but i got to see some friends i havent seen in a while. i knew there would be a lot of people there and a lot of bands but its like your head didnt stop spinning all day.

i went with D and we got to see some bands weve seen before, some we wanted to see for a while, and some i hadnt even herd about before.

we caught local favorites monty are i, and also saw the matches who i hadnt herd a lot about but after their electrifing performance i got their cd's off i tunes, muse was stellar of course, as was madina lake.

well let me tell you after all that i couldnt wait to get home..it was a long bday celebration.

tuesday was my first full day of rest..finally..well almost that night i was dragging D back out along with my bro and cuz to go see monty are i perform at the livingroom. even though i saw them shortly at bamboozle, that wasnt enough..it was too short of a set, plus they were having a home show. how fun is that!

i have to say they put on such a great performance! what a group of talented guys, they ar unique and know how to really rock out, so if you dont know them they are
def. worth a listen! we ended up running into chuck (one of D's friends)..we were having so much fun we decided to go to club hell for 80's night. i havent been there for years but being there was so much fun and they played good music, and had such a good group of people hangng out, i figured i have to go back!

well the only bad thing was, was that i forgot they closed 95 so like an idiot i got on then had to get off circle the city then grab rt 6..i didnt get home till 2:15 ugh...and i ahd to be up at 7:45 for work..i knew then i would have to get the biggest coffee possible to make it through the morning.

the birthday celebration

so the whirlwind of the birthday week has come to an end. now i can share with you all the adventures that ive been on. this year happened to be one of the best b-days ever!

why?

well like i said before it takes a while to find your nitch here but once you do ur ddestined to have a ton of fun.

well my b-day was last thursday..and for starters i had an appt. to get my first tattoo, i just didnt tell anyone. so after work i went over to art freak on steeple st. with my friends from work. Mike was the artist who re-did the design i drew and made it perfect.

i have to say it didnt even hurt, it was sickly relaxing..so thats the place to go b/c they do beautiful work.

from there my friend lauren and i went over to lupos to meet up with my brother steve, cousin marc, and my best friend d, to try to catch this newer band called the almost..even though we missed more than half the show..what we caught awesome!

after a good b-day cheers the show had ended and my bro. decided to rush the stage to get aaron gillespie (the singer) to sign his hat..the best part, i got good b-day wishes from the band. after that we headed over to murphys for a drink and some food.

as soon as we got there i could see we were starting to create a scene b/c my bro. made a blow dart out of straws and toothpicks to recreate the secne from old school where will ferell gets shot in the neck buy the tranquilizer dart. we werent the only ones the guys in band were laughing and in on it too untill we decided to leave and go over to the red fez.

ive never been to the fez before but lauren has and she said it was a good time..well it
sure was, it was two floors and both rooms were flooded with red light, cool people, not mention they make a good drink. even though it wasnt too busy we still had a good time but i had soon remembered emily (my friend from work) telling me to stop by julians to hang out.

well i had never been there either but i figured what the heck im surrounded by
such good friends and family why wouldnt it be fun. i think we had the most fun there b/c it was so busy, ther was an art show put on by risd students and they had live music, compliments of emily's fiance! well the artwork was great and i also herd from several people that the food was amazing.

i ended up meeting some cool people, and seeing some old friends. as far as the rest of my crazy group...julians gave lauren a pirate hat, somehow a sugar dispenser found its way into my bag (steve), marc and steve riding the mechanical horse out front..and we all decided to play a game of wiffle ball in the street/sidewalk..not sure why, i guess it just seemed like fun at the time.

so that was my b-day..i had so much fun b/c of the great people i was with and the new places i got to check out..which i will be back to! with that adventure done..

ps i did make it to work friday..

i still had to go out to dinner with my dad and laura (girlfriend) which i was looking forward too! we ended up going to herbs and spices on main st. my bro. works there and i herd they have some of the best thai food.

boy was i right! after they got over the shock of the tattoo (haha) dinner was amazing..the food was great, perfectly seasoned..and definitely cooked to perfection..we even met the cook! after that i headed up to d's place to crash and tie up loose ends before we took off for nj in the morning.. remember bamboozle..well im sure were in for a crazy time..stay tuned!!

madina lake wins this fan

So i dont know if you all know but around nov. the red jumpsuit apparatus played a show at lupos...well in that show there was a band called madina lake who played.

their set was amazing, there was so much energy and passion in every song, and they def. got the fans amped up.

i got the chance to hang out with them and found out they are real down to earth guys with a great passion for their music.

so much so nathan and his twin bro. matthew were on a special edition of fear factor and actually won the cash that kickstarted their career.

After that they released the disappearance of adalia ep on aug 22, 2006. well between then and now they have been touring and recently released their much anticipated first album on march 27, "from them, through us, to you."

since then it has gotten rave reviews, one of the best new bands of 07. their influences are the smashing pumpkins, muse, nine inch nails to name a few. nathan (vocals) mateo (guitar) matthew (bass) dan (drums) are based out of chicago, madina lake is not to disappoint with their first single house of cards, as seen on mtv's discover and download, wake up, and hit list, reaching the number one spot.

how? by stellar guitar and bass rifts, and captivating hardcore drum solos and vocals. the rest of the album is packed with amazing songs that you will get addicted to.

some of my favorites (if i have to pick) pandora, true love, adalia. with that said they recently came to boston and put of a great performance. with nonstop touring around the us they finally came back around and played bamboozle in nj.

if you werent there, be sure not to miss them next time there in town, till then enjoy the album!

so excited about the blog

im so excited about the blog... i am working on a few more entries right now..on my birthday..and other stuff that has been going on...

ive been so busy and believe it or not i havent been near a comp...lol...but i have been carrying my notebook..

my bday was awsome!! and the celebration continues so ill have some good stories

Who am i

So, im back in RI.

Like many people i was itching to get out. There was nothing here just the same old, same old.

Well, working on a cruise ship for a while taught me sometimes you have to look harder for the adventure.

My adventure? Well...im a hairdresser in Providence by day and by night i love seeing live music and enjoy good company.

Im a painter and i draw so i try to see what our local artists are coming up with. I try not to go to the same places because i like to meet new people and see new things...but you always have your regular favorites.

I think its time to shed some light on the true gems in Providence, the amazing local bands and artists, bars and local hangouts, and anyone interesting who passes through town on tour or just an adventure.

That is what i will be sharing with you. This is life and i think its too short to not have one good story after another.
