Midnight Madness is a month away so it's about time the Providence Friars - and their fans - know who the team will be playing this season.
The Friars finally released their 2006-07 schedule today. There are no surprises from what's been previously reported in the Journal. The Friars play 13 non-league games, all but two at The Dunk. Their top home games come against Boston College (Nov. 22), URI (Dec. 2) and George Washington (Nov.. 26). They'll hit the road twice: at Florida on Dec. 6 and against Florida State in Tampa on Dec. 29.
The Big East schedule isn;t that bad. PC opens at home with two games (vs. marquette and Seton Hall) for the first time in years. They'll end with two on the road but not against the mettle (at S.Florida and St. John's). The best conference home games come against Syracuse (Feb. 24), Villanova (Jan. 23) and Marquette (Jan. 4).
A story on the schedule, as well as plans to honor the 1987 Final Four team next May, will run in Friday's Journal.
