Chelsea awards roundup
Today I would rather be at Chelsea Royal Hospital under the marquee, with the floral exhibits of an empire gone to seed.
Or resting in the long grass of Ranelagh Gardens, the site of a pleasure garden which, depending on whom you listen to was, from the 1600s, either the site of genteel musical entertainment or debauchery en plein aire, perhaps dependent on the height of the grass.
But being here at my desk makes all other things possible.
On this morning in Chelsea, the air smells sweetly of grass and mud. And bacon sandwiches.
This is the morning when, after months of work, entrants wake up to find whether they have won an award.
Judging, one is repeatedly told, is to a standard. It’s not an Olympian gold-silver-bronze. (In fact, it’s gold, silver-gilt, silver and bronze.) If no one deserves gold, nobody gets gold.
So, after reviewing the various reports, here’s a roundup of Chelsea Flower Show coverage.
*More slideshows and stores from the Guardian:
*Vertigo-inducing 360-degree panoramas from the Telegraph, and a range of other coverage.
*Times of London with a comprehensive package.
Enjoy with restraint, or with abandon.

Hi - Paula,
Being there must like being in heaven.
Can't you take us there on a tour next year? I'll be the first one to sign up and I'll volunteer to recruit other people to go.
