Where does your watering water come from?

I'm not thinking much about watering these days. But when I think back to the summer, I see myself saving every drop. We have a shallow well at home, so we're thinking about it all the time. And it's not until you're in the low-water frame of mind, that you see the amount of water we waste every day throughout the year.

Now with legislation pertaining to restricted lawn-watering, we'd better start thinking even harder. There are so many reasons to conserve, even if you're drawing from a public water line. How many times have you driven past a business on a rainy summer day and seen their lawn sprinklers on? If you know anything about grass, you know that the more you water it, the more it needs water. The roots won't grow deep if they are trained to stay near the surface. Try to tell that to homeowners in a suburb where lush green lawns are a property owner's duty!

In Florida, you rarely see extensive green lawns. They're adapted their landscape plans to the climate. This blog is a perfect place to send your water conservation tips, so please add yours to mine:

- Don't just let it go down the drain: Keep a bucket near your sinks to collect water you'd otherwise let escape, like water from. You'll be surprised how fast the buckets fill!
