Ready. Set. Dig!
The gloves are off. Or on, rather.
Anyhow. If you're still wondering, it's safe to plant outdoors in Rhode Island.
Says me. Paula Constantine, editor of The Providence Journal's Home section, where the gardening news is kept. I'm also a Master Gardener.
In a normal year, the average last frost date is considered to be somewhere in the middle of the month. This, coupled with people's natural inclinations, make Memorial Day weekend the natural Official Planting Day of Rhode Islanders.
But with overnight temperatures in the 50s or better all this week, if you have an itch to go scratching in the dirt after work some night this week, indulge it.
Some of you may have been out already. Many clubs and organizations have held plant sales in the past week or two, and the garden centers have been busy. So get those little green guys in the ground. The rain later in the week will do them good.
