CENTRAL FALLS –– The police are searching for a man they say stabbed a brother and sister during a domestic dispute early Sunday morning. Kevin Stanford, 24, is being sought on a warrant charging him with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, the Central Falls Police Chief, Col. Joseph P. Moran III, said. Stanford, whose last known address was 20 Forsyth St., Providence, is alleged to have stabbed Sheila Lopes, 24, and her brother, Alex Lopes, 28, with a pocketknife. Sheila Lopes and Stanford have one child, Moran said. Both of the stabbing victims were discharged from the emergency room at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, after receiving treatment, according to Louise C. Paiva, the hospital spokeswoman. Neither victim suffered a life-threatening injury, Moran said. The stabbing came to light when the police were called to the Lopes’s residence at 42 Washington St. in response to a report of a large disturbance there at 4:35 a.m., Moran said. Sheila Lopes, who was stabbed in the leg, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, Moran said. Alex Lopes, who was stabbed in the chest, either drove himself to the hospital or was taken there by someone, Moran said. Moran said the hospital followed protocol by reporting Alex Lopes’s stabbing to the police. -- Journal staff writer John Castellucci |
