Business leaders and public officials will open the two-day Business Expo 2008 this morning at 9:30 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
John Maeda, incoming president of the Rhode Island School of Design, will deliver a keynote address at 10:30 a.m. Other speakers and seminars will follow during the day.
About 350 exhibitors have set up booths on the showroom floor.
Although much of Maeda's compelling media presentation was pre-fab, he began his keynote address with a few digital shots taken that morning before the 10:30 presentation, showing that this is a guy who is 'always on', always paying attention to his surroundings, always abstracting from the commonplace that most men miss. That formula seems to have worked for the forty-two-year-old. Here's hoping it will work for RISD, and for Providence, too.
What a great keynote speaker.
