Bank fraud hits RI, NH
A New York City man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after pleading guilty to a bank fraud that prosecutors say netted $42,000 from accounts in New Hampshire and Rhode Island in two days.
Twenty-eight-year-old Warren Butler pleaded guilty in October in New Hampshire to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Authorities said Butler admitted buying account information from a bank employee in New York State, then sending it to “runners” around the Northeast who pretended they were the customers and withdrew money.
Butler also was ordered to pay $265,000 in restitution.
Two runners, Bryant Green and Latanya Jones, both of Boston, already have been convicted and sentenced. The case against the bank employee still is pending.
