Aspen Aerogels, the Northboro, Mass.-based company that recently opened a plant in East Providence, has been awarded a contract from Helix Energy Solutions Group, of Houston, to supply insulation for a subsea pipe line in the Anadarko Petroleum oil discovery of the Gulf of Mexico.
Aspen’s insulation was chosen because it offers the lowest thermal conductivity while being much thinner than other pipe insulations, the company said. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Aspen Aerogels earlier this year opened a factory in East Providence, where about 20 workers are employed.
