Verizon Communications said this afternoon that it will donate an original Norman Rockwell painting, "The Lineman," to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass. The oil-on-canvas painting was created by Rockwell in 1948 for an advertisement for New England Telephone, a predecessor company of Verizon. Rockwell used a telephone employee at work in Chesire, Mass. as the model, Verizon said. The work was recently appraised at over $2 million, Verizon said. The phone company and the museum are holding a ceremony to mark the donation on Wednesday at the museum. |
