TOKYO -- The Sox now hold a 5-4 lead heading into the third.
They padded their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second when Kevin Youkilis singled home Julio Lugo (double).
But the Tigers answered with four runs in the bottom of the second off Clay Buchholz, with all four of the runs coming after two were out.
Leadoff hitter Norihiro Akaboshi provided the big hit with a two-run double. Keiichi Hirano later supplied a two-run single.
