Clubhouse reaction after losing nightcap

Red Sox reliever Eric Gagne, who blew a save opportunity after he allowed three runs in the top of the ninth inning, was no where to be found in the clubhouse after the game. In fact, it was a very quiet clubhouse.

Manager Terry Francona on the eighth and ninth innings:

“It ended up being a frustrating inning all the way around."

Francona on the eighth-inning rally only to loss in the end:

“The place is electric and the same things that will make you laugh will make you cry. They turned right around and did it to us.”

Why does Francona constantly try to force Gagme into this bullpen? He has a rested, recently lights- out Timlin in the pen with a one run lead against a very tough Angels team, and he puts in a struggling, uneffective, washed out Gagme to protect the game. What gives?

Every time Gagne comes in I have to grip tight onto the arm of the couch and hope he doesn't blow it!!! So far he has proved me right. A 15.00 ERA!!!! Ya gotta be kiddin' me!!!

FRANCONA (AGAIN) WHEN GIVEN TWO CHOICES, ALWAYS
CHOOSES THE WRONG ONE. HE'S TOO BUSY TRYING TO
RESTORE GAGNE'S CONFIDENCE, WHEN HE SHOULD BE
CONCENTRATING ON WINNING BALL GAMES. STICK TO
WHAT WORKS......YOU'VE GOT TIMLIN, DELCARMEN, OKAJIMA, SNYDER...............USE GAGNE WHEN
YOU HAVE A LARGE LEAD AND HAVE HIM 'MOP UP'
ALSO, IT SEEMS LIKE FANS (LIKE ME) HURT MORE THAN
THE PLAYERS, AFTER THESE BLOWN GAMES. HAVE
THE PLAYERS QUIT TREATING THESE DOWN TIMES, AS
'ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE'.............

Francona would be a fool to give Gagne another save opportunity. Let hime work as mop up man or even in Pawtucket for now.

STAY W/UR RELIEF PITCHERS HAD HAVE DONE THE JOB , AND STOP TRYING TO PROVE THAT GAGNE IS THE ONE.
