Baseball Today: Tuesday, April 3

A local spin around the baseball world . . .

RELIVE THE NIGHTMARE, MOMENT BY MOMENT: Joe Posnanski blogged yesterday's Red Sox-Royals game from his seat in the Kaufman Stadium press box. In addition to the game he provided advice to the fans, the most valuable of which may have been: ''Don't scream 'balk' when the guy whirls around and fakes the throw to second." Amen, Joe, amen. (thesoulofbaseball.blogspot.com)

RELIVE THE NIGHTMARE, BATTER BY BATTER: That's pretty much what Curt Schilling does. Give him credit, though. He came back to the computer and still posted after what had to be one of the most disappointing days -- considering how much importance he's placing on this season -- of his career. (38pitches.com)

HOW WE SAW IT: Sean McAdam recounts Schilling's afternoon. (projo.com)

HOW THEY SAW IT: The Kansas City Star gives us the view from the other side. (kansascity.com)

COME AGAIN? Brigham's Ice Cream has decided it's time to retire it's "Curse Reversed" ice cream. (There is a God.) The reason? ''[After] winning a World Series championship and putting two great baseball seasons behind us, it's time to retire anything related to a 'curse' and bestow a new name more fitting to the dream for the team in 2007," said Chuck Green, CEO and President of Brigham's. Couple of things, Chuck: 1) How do seasons in which the team was swept in the first round of the playoffs and missed the playoffs entirely qualify as ''great'', and 2) shouldn't the curse have disappeared on Oct. 27, 2004? Well, let's not quibble. Start thinking of a new name, folks. One of the contenders: Dice-Kream. I think I'd prefer ''Curse Reversed.'' (brighams.com)

ALL A-ROD, ALL THE TIME: And they say we're obsessive . . . (nypost.com)

MEDICAL REPORT: Johnny Damon cramped up and had to leave yesterday's game against the Devil Rays (newsday.com) . . . Rocco Baldelli, on the other hand, ignored his hamstring problems, stayed in the game and was pretty productive (tbo.com)

OLD FRIENDS: It was a quite a day yesterday for Trot Nixon (ohio.com), Hanley Ramirez (miamiherald.com), and, as you all probably saw on the highlight reels, Edgar Renteria (ajc.com) . . . Not so much for David Eckstein, though; looks like he won't be getting a contract extension anytime soon (stltoday.com).
