-- ANOTHER 1-0 WIN: For the 2nd time in less than 24 hours, the Red Sox recorded a 1-0 win vs. the Kansas City Royals…the wins marked just the 4th time in club history that the Red Sox posted consecutive 1-0 wins, the first since August 26-27, 1990 at Toronto…the Red Sox posted back-to-back 1-0 wins at Fenway for the first time in more than 90 years, joining their June 22-23, 1916 efforts vs. New York and Philadelphia…Boston also turned the trick August 17-18, 1907 at St. Louis . . . The Red Sox are the first major league team to record back-to-back 1-0 wins since the Los Angeles Dodgers turned the trick September 19-20, 2000 vs. Arizona at Dodger Stadium (thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau for its research assistance) . . . The Red Sox have recorded consecutive shutouts for the first time since April 20-21, 2005 at Baltimore.
-- SWEEPS MONTH: With the 3-game sweep, the Red Sox have now swept 4 of the last 5 series played at Fenway Park, also sweeping 3-game sets from Washington (June 19-21), Philadelphia (June 23-26) and the New York Mets (June 27-29).
-- NOT AN OFFICIAL NO-HITTER BUT . . . Red Sox pitchers recorded 29 outs in a row without allowing a hit from Mark Teahen’s one-out single in the second inning last night through the end of the second inning today (Angel Berroa led off the 3rd inning with a double)…Jon Lester (7.2 innings), Jonathan Papelbon (1.0 inning) and Josh Beckett (2.0 innings) combined to accomplish the feat.
-- MORE ON THE GOOSE EGGS: Boston pitchers have posted 21.0 consecutive scoreless innings dating from the 7th inning Monday through today…the 21.0 inning stretch is Boston’s longest scoreless run of the season, topping a pair of 14.0-inning stretches April 5-7 and July 14-16.
-- A DANDY DOZEN: Josh Beckett today joined Toronto’s Roy Halladay as the lone 12-game winners in the American League…he earned the first 1-0 win of his major league career…he has now won 5 of his last 7 starts.
-- CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Manny Ramirez today connected for his 25th homer of the season, the 460th of his major league career and his 224th as a Red Sox, passing Bobby Doerr for 6th on Boston’s all-time list…Mo Vaughn ranks 5th with 230 Red Sox homers . . . Manny’s homer led off the fourth…he is batting .361 (30-for-83) with 9 doubles and 8 homers when leading off an inning in 2006.
-- PAP ROLLS ON: Jonathan Papelbon today recorded his 29th save of the season, tied with Pittsburgh’s Rich Loiselle for the 5th-most saves by a rookie in major league history…his 29 saves are now tied with Lee Smith (1988) and Dick Radatz (1964) for the 10th-highest single-season save total by any pitcher in Red Sox history.
-- LAYING IT ON THE LINE: David Ortiz laid down his second bunt single of the year, a dribbler down the third base line in the first inning…he also had a bunt single April 23 at Toronto…prior to 2006, his previous bunt single came August 21, 2005 at the Angels.
-- MULTIPLICITY: Mark Loretta went 2-for-4 and upped his team-leading tally to 35 multi-hit games this season…overall, he leads the team with 113 hits this season and is on pace to complete the year with 197 hits . . . Loretta is now batting .350 (63-for-180) in 44 games at home compared to .255 (50-for-196) in 46 games on the road.
-- ON THE RECORD: The Red Sox are now 13-5 (.722) in Doug Mirabelli’s 18 starts since being reacquired from San Diego on May 1.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS (32-62)
-- ON THE MARK: Mark Redman tossed a complete game in the losing effort, his first since May 14, 2005 with Pittsburgh vs. Milwaukee, a 2-0 Pirates win . . . Redman’s 9 strikeouts today are a season high while he matched his season high with 8.0 innings pitched (4th time in 2006) . . . Redman lost for the first time since May 19 at St. Louis…he had gone 6-0 with a 4.35 ERA in 8 starts between setbacks.
-- BACK ON TRACK: Angel Berroa’s double to lead off the 3rd inning today gave the Royals at least one double in 37 of their last 38 games…the Royals did not record a double last night, snapping their run of 36 games in a row with a double, which equaled the franchise record.
