Cincy psyched about Arroyo

Players and fans in Cincinnati are on board with Reds management over the trade for former Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo, according to coverage today in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Of nearly 2,000 fans who have responded so far to an Enquirer poll, 77.65 percent said trading 24-year-old slugger Wily Mo Pena for Arroyo was a good move. And Reds players, including former Red Sox Scott Hatteberg, said Arroyo is bound to improve Cincinnati's pitching, which was woeful last year.

"He's very good," Hatteberg told the newspaper. "He eats up innings, which is important. His stuff is good."

Writer John Fay said the Reds will also be able to improve their defense. As a result of the move, Adam Dunn will be the full-time left fielder, while Hatteberg will occupy first base. Pena has been an adventure with his glove at all three outfield positions. "Adam Dunn is better than Wily Mo in left," Reds manager Jerry Narron, a former Boston coach, told the Enquirer. "Hatteberg is better than Dunn at first."

Fay reported that Arroyo will probably be the Reds' third starter, behind Aaron Harang and Brandon Claussen.
