| Mike Lowell may be done for the playoffs »
BOSTON --- The Red Sox gave up the ghost on Mike Lowell tonight, taking him off the active roster because of his right hip injury. The move also means Lowell will be ineligible to play in the American League Championship Series if the Red Sox advance. He would be eligible for the World Series if the Sox make it that far. They replaced him on the active roster with infielder Gil Velazquez, who will be available tonight for Game Four of the ALDS versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Lowell started Games One and Three of this series and is hitless in 8 at-bats. He has been bothered by the hip injury for much of the second half of the season and had just one at bat over the final two weeks of the regular season. |
