BOSTON (AP) - In contrast to the raucous celebrations that followed victorious postseasons in 2004 and 2007, it was a quiet homecoming for the Red Sox after their 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 7 of the AL Championship Series. There were TV crews but no fans on hand when buses carrying the team arrived in the early-morning chill outside Fenway Park on Monday. The team flew home from Florida immediately after the game. Most players quickly climbed into cars and drove away, preferring not to reflect any further on the disappointing finish. Center fielder Coco Crisp did tell reporters that the team put up a good fight and almost pulled off a miracle finish, adding, "there's always next year." CommentsLeave a comment |

As a diehard Red Sox fan, I want to let the entire team know that we here in Rhode Island supported their efforts this year and want to congratulate them on making the playoffs. We are proud of how they showed their class after this tough loss to the Rays. You can be sure we will look forward to next year and anticipate that our "guys" will, again, make us proud. Their grit during this past season shows what being a Red Sox is all about. I only wish I could have been at Fenway today to tell the team in person that they are terrific. GO SOX!!!

I think it was despicable that there were no fans at the airport to greet the Red Sox. Do we only appreciate them when they win? What about the fantastic job they have done all season long, despite all the injuries & adversities they suffered? I am disabled & live in NH, otherwise I would have liked to have been there. Someone should have shown their appreciation for the sensational regular season they had. And Dustin Pedroia has my vote for MVP! GO SOX ALWAYS!!!

Peggy, shut up.

The real question is how does this compare to 2003 and 2005? Comparing it to 2004 and 2007 is stupid.

Does anybody know how Peggy feels on this issue?

Hi Guys, heres the deal:
Its not WHO you have - its WHAT you have. The fact of the matter is, the 2008 Red Sox just didnt have it. It hurts to say - its even harder to believe....But honestly, anyone who thought the Sox would make it to Game 7 is high. The Red Sox need to find a way to get better without compromising chemistry. Boston was down a tire all year. The fact they made it to their "destination" is enough of a miracle. Shortstop is an issue, the bullpen is an issue, catcher is an issue, a middle-of-the-lineup-impact-hitter...is an issue. I realize its tough to go so far and not make it, but 28 teams do it every single year - for the same reasons...they just didnt have it. That being said - its a slap in the face that people werent there to greet the Red Sox - how much better could they have done?
