BOSTON -- Let's not go overboard, but the Red Sox still are alive in the American League race. Tampa Bay just lost in Detroit so the Sox remain in the mix for the East title, 2.5 games back with four to play.
Basically the Rays have to lose three more to the Tigers while the Sox beat Cleveland tonight and sweep the Yankees this weekend. Good luck.
That the Sox are giving David Ortiz a night off tonight probably says a lot about what they see as their chances to overtake the Rays.
