BY KEVIN McNAMARA ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Terry Francona just wrapped up his daily briefing with the media and said the team is not prepared to make a final decision on the status of Mike Lowell or J.D. Drew. The Sox are still in their workout and obviously want to meet afterwards to discuss how things played out before finalizing their roster. "We want to watch our guys work out and they're not done yet," said Francona. "We'll meet a little later at the hotel and talk with the guys." Drew looked very good at the plate, sending several pitches deep into the right field stands at Angels Stadium. Drew also took some balls in right field and didn't seem to be bothered much. Lowell just finished his hitting in the cage. While he hit several line drives and didn't pull up lame at all, he was not driving the ball anywhere as well as Drew did. Lowell also took grounders at third base where he moved somewhat gingerly. General manager Theo Epstein and the team's training staff watched every swing Lowell took. While Francona shot down any thoughts of playing David Ortiz at first to get Lowell's bat in the lineup as the DH, he said, "We're just not ready to make out our lineup yet." |
