Click the play button below to hear Sean McAdam's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: the potential for a Red Sox-Rays ALCS, why Tampa Bay won't fall apart (as many had predicted), whether the Rays can afford to keep Troy Percival as their closer, and whether the Red Sox can afford to keep Mike Timlin in the bullpen for the postseason.
Here's what Sean said impresses him about the Rays:
"I think they reflect their manager a great deal. Joe Maddon is a guy who came in here a few years ago and instilled some direction and some pride, and a lot of the intangibles maybe that were missing. It wears you down when you're losing 90-plus games every year, as some of these guys have done in a Tampa uniform, and I think that he kept a positive attitude the whole time, and didn't ride them. He's the type of manager who I think gets a lot out of his players, and thats certainly a factor.
"Also, as we saw last night after Sonnanstine left, even with the continuing up-and-down nature of Troy Percival's season, they have a very deep bullpen, and they have lots of guys that they can mix, left and right, and even in Percival's absence they have done amazing things with their relief pitching."
