By Joe McDonald TORONTO -- It appears the Red Sox have recalled reliever Chris Smith from Pawtucket. Even though Boston has today off, the pitching staff is taxed and could use some help in the bullpen. This will be the right-hander's fourth stint with the Red Sox this season. He's 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in five games with Boston. In 8 1/3 innings he's allowed two runs on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts for the Sox. Since returning to Pawtucket on Aug. 7, Smith is 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA in three outings after allowing seven runs on six hits in three innings. Prior to that, Smith had earned saves in each of his previous five games with the PawSox with a 0.00 ERA.
