Red Sox pitching prospect Michael Bowden has been called up to Boston and will make his major-league debut on Saturday.
The 21-year-old right-hander left McCoy Stadium a little while ago and was on his way to Fenway Park.
Red Sox backup first baseman Sean Casey (neck) was placed on the 15-day DL today, making room for Bowden to be called up.
Bowden began the season at Double-A Portland before being promoted to Pawtucket. With the PawSox he's 0-3 with a 3.38 ERA. He struck out 29 and walked only five in 40 innings pitched for Pawtucket.
He was selected by the Red Sox as a sandwich pick (47th overall) in the 2005 draft.
David Pauley will start for the Red Sox on Saturday, so Bowden will be a added arm to the staff.
