Godfrey confronts Belichick?
Old friend Tom Curran writes on nbcsports.com that Redskins linebacker Randall Godfrey confronted Patriots coach Bill Belichick after Washington got blasted off the Gillette Stadium turf.
"I said something to (Belichick) after the game," Godfrey said. "I told him, 'You need to show some respect for the game.' You just don't do that. I don't care how bad it is. You're up 35 points and you're still throwing deep? That's no respect."
"You look at all the great head coaches ... I'm just disappointed," he went on. You gotta show some class, show some respect. Joe Gibbs? We wouldn't have done that. Bill Walsh? You wouldn't see those types of guys doing that stuff. I've never seen nothing like that. Most teams, you get up like that you sit on the ball and try to run the time out. They're up 30-some points and they're throwing deep. That was blatant disrespect. I hope we can see them again, definitely. You don't see Joe Gibbs doing that. You can't even imagine that kind of stuff coming from him. Joe Gibbs. Bill Walsh. Bill Parcells. This isn't like college going for power rankings. This is the pros you show some respect, show some class."
Godfrey was a member of the San Diego Chargers last season, when the top-seeded Chargers were upset at home by the Patriots.

Why is actually playing for all four quarters "running up the score"? If the opposition plays pro football, they stop them and they don't score. This isn't high school, these are athletes paid millions to compete. Is there some big secret that they don't want to work too hard and the Patriots are showing what happens if you really play hard? For the money they make, they should all be playing hard.
Harry -- for the most part, I agree with you. This isn't high school...if you don't want to lose by 45 points, figure out something to try and stop them. - smy

Godfrey had one tackle for the entire game.
He should show "respect" for Redskin fans by refusing his paycheck.
Mike -- excellent point by you! - smy

Perhaps Godfrey, the newest crybaby ought to earn some respect by playing some defense. The Patriots don't need this walking joke to be their offensive coordinator. Every week there's some girly-man crying and whining about the Patriots having no class and having no respect because they kicked his girly-(butt) all over the field and scored points. Perhaps Godfrey ought to have some class and some self-respect and play defense as she's paid to do. Hey, this just in... The Patriots have no respect! They run scores up on opponents!!! They don't ask their opponent how many points they can score, they just score them with no regard for Marquis of Queensbury rules! And they reduce goons like Godfrey into crying little girls. Pity. So who will be the crybaby next week, crying about the Patriots having no class? I hope it's Manning. But Godfrey can certainly serve as this weeks embarrassment until then.
Art - I love your contribution, as always. - smy

SURPRISE SURPRISE!!! Godfrey is a former crybaby Charger who hasn't recovered from the loss last year. Get a grip pal teams do it all the time there have been more lopsided games in the past stop whining. Yea right you want to meet them again talk is cheap.

Godfrey show some class. Learn how to play football. If you had talent the score would not have been this bad.

Another loser. Players on the other end of the stick are complaining that the Patriots are not respecting them, what gives? They are supposed to play and compete, and if the other team is better then take it like a man.
Now it appears the NFL should rule that a winning team is not going to win for more than 15? 20? 25? points so the feelings of the losing team does not get affected.

Mr. Godfrey needs to stop crying. This is "Pro-Football". If Mr. Godfrey didn't like the butt-kicking, they should have just play some defence.

I have to agree. How much fun can a game be when you rack up points like that. We know you can score touchdowns, just respect the game.

There's no crying in football. Act like a highly paid professional. Play Defense.

Well if you can not to see Defeat .Then get better then what you are . This only shows you what you really are a bunch of first class cry Babies...........You were outclassed from the start. And you gave in to a better team shame on you for this . Now go back and learn football .

Better call the WAHMBULANCE. These "football" players should really stop crying and pay closer attention to their own lack of effort or ability. Like Mike Ditka and the aforementioned Bill Parcells both said on the NFL Network, If you don't want points scored against you, play better! Both of those coaches said "Belichick was not running scores up, or rubbing anybody's nose in the dirt. If you want close games with a mercy rule, watch (or play) in the POP Warner league......"

Big Pats fan, fun time every week they play, but I think once they got into the 40's they should have just tried to run the clock as much as possible.

What a putz he is. this is football it is competition if you want them to stop scoring, stop them if not go home a loser.
Posted by: gman333 at October 29, 2007 10:48 AM
CRY BABY!!! THIS IS THE NFL!!! YOU PLAY TO WIN!!! THEY GIVE A TEAM 4 QUARTERS TO SCORE AS MANY POINTS AS THEY CAN. YOU WANT A MERCY RULE PUT IT IN THE RULES,eg. Any team ahead by 28 or more points in the 4th quarter WINS. ABSENT THAT TOUGH TOMATOES

Its a shame that Godfrey has exported the Charger's culture of whining to the Skins. If he and the other Washington defenders had done a competent job there wouldn't be anything for him to complain about.
In this day and age I don't believe there is any such thing as running up the score. Every point you make can effect tie breakers for home field advantage in the playoffs. Every point scored or yard gained affects the player stats and how much they get paid on their next contract. Are Pats players supposed to stop playing for all 60 minutes because the other teams do? Are they supposed to possibly sacrifice homefield advantage or an extra million dollars on their next contract just to make the other team feel better about losing ?
They should send this guy back to San Diego where whining is a way of life as opposed to what the Pats do, actually accepting responsibility for your own failures.

Who the (heck) is Randall Godfrey ???
Posted by: Mark P at October 29, 2007 11:45 AM
This is the NFL...you're getting paid big bucks....if you don't like a team scoring 50 on you...then stop them. If you can't..then shut up and take it....just like you take the millions they pay you.

Wait a sec - didn't Gibbs run up a score around 50 points against the Pats way back in his better days? Will someone please set Godfrey straight about his coach's true policy on running up the score?
Chris - Just looked at the history of games between Washington and New England, and in the Skins' six wins against the Pats, the average margin of victory was 7.2 points, and they never scored more than 27 points in any of the games (Gibbs wasn't coach for all of those games, though). But Washington did score 10 points in the final three minutes of their 34-3 win over Detroit a few weeks ago on a field goal and interception return. - smy

At $80 plus per ticket that most teams charge, teams owe fans a full four quarters of hard played football. Maybe Godfrey would like to return some of his paycheck if teams find it necessary to "shut it down" early.

If I let up on you, you can take that to mean that I *don't* respect you. On the flip side, if I were getting beat and my opponent eased up on me at the end, I wouldn't take that as respect, I would take that as pity.
Randall, the Pats didn't make you look bad, YOU made yourself look bad. Why not show up and force a punt every now and then? (Heck), *I* could play in the NFL if the opponent is going to take it easy on me.

My, how the world LOVES KARMA. I firmly believe Bill is forcing (although they believe in it also) the players to play all 4 quarters. Forcing the player to PROVE the patriots did not use the videos for cheating purposes, didn't need them for cheating purposes.
Ask yourself this question, why has the league commissioner not stepped in and say "you need to stop scoring so many points."? Answer, because the world is watching a NEW BREED of NFL players. A NEW ERA of NFL Football. A NEW CLASS of teams emerge from the archaic structure once know as football.
For a few years, the NE Patriots has one of the lowest payrolls in the league. And yet, we still brought in talent. We still managed to gain new raw recruits that we could form and train to play like we wanted. People who still had the knowledge, know-how and drive to play... even though other teams left them for road-kill.
To every team out there.. If you don't want the score run up, improve your defense or make your offense stay on the field longer. If you cannot do this.. /shrug. there is always little league football to be played.
