Welcome to New England, Donte...
Hey all --
We just finished up a conference call with new Patriots receiver Donte Stallworth, and it must have had him re-thinking his decision to come here to New England.
Usually, these things start off with an easy question, asking how the process went that brought him to the Pats, but right off the bat, he was asked about his reported feud with old/new teammate Kelley Washington that dates back to their days at the University of Tennessee.
Then he was asked about the report in a Philadelphia paper that he's a member of the league's substance abuse program (he said that's "in the past"), if the Eagles didn't want him any more, and about the contract he signed with the Pats, which pays him pretty well this year, but could pay him big-time bucks next year.
Welcome to town!
Eventually, he was asked questions about coming to the Patriots, and Stallworth said he talked to Tom Brady and Deion Branch about the team, and said Branch had good things to say about the organization despite the way his time here ended.
As for his role, Stallworth said he doesn't see himself "as a number one receiver. I'm just another guy that can make plays."
