South shore bass report
Bass have been stacking up in the Weekapaug Breachway on the low tide in the afternoon, says Del "Plugman" Barber, but the fish are confounding fishermen. The bass won't bite conventional lures, he says.
"The avenues in Narragansett have seen a steady increase in activity," says Rob Robinson of Wildwood Outfitters. "From Black Point to Burrows Point, guys have been bringing in fish up to 31 pounds at night on eels and bunker chunks. Moonstone Beach to the Cottages has had some fish up to 25 pounds on Dannys, poppers, and live-lined shad. The Charlestown Breachway has had bass and blues in the early morning on the outgoing tide. Bass have been between 27 and 36 inches, and the best action has been on cloudy/foggy mornings."
