After spending five months on the football beat with the Patriots, I'm back on hockey with the Bruins.

Boston just concluded its game-day skate at the Garden in preparation for tonight's game against the New York Rangers. For the Bruins, Tim Thomas (19-14-3) will get the nod between the pipes, while it's likely Henrik Lundqvist (20-15-2) will start for the Rangers.
The big news of the day surrounded Bruins forward Brad Boyes, who has just one goal in his last 14 games. Ever since his three-point (one goal, two assists) performance against the Devils on Dec. 14, he has just four points (one goal, three assists) in the last 18 games.

"There are signs [of him coming around]," said Bruins coach Dave Lewis. "He just hasn't played this season with a lot of confidence. He can be more physical, and when he does that he gets himself into the game. He's got a great shot and should shot the puck more."

In an interview on WEEI's Dale and Holley show, rookie Phil Kessel says he has received the OK from team doctors to begin a two-game stint with the Providence Bruins. Kessel would then be able to return to Boston, possibly as early as Tuesday.

The P-Bruins are at home tonight against Worcester.

Kessel, who is 19, had surgery Dec. 11 following a diagnosis of testicular cancer.
