| Bruins hire player personnel director, assistant coach, scout »
One day after Ray Shero withdrew from the Bruins' general-manager search, here is the latest on Boston job front: -- Shero will be named general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins later this afternoon. -- The Ottawa Senators are meeting today in an attempt to persuade Peter Chiarelli, now thought to be the Bruins' top choice, to remain with the franchise. Chiarelli, the assistant to GM John Muckler (the ex-Rhode Island Reds coach and general manager), is the individual in the organization most familiar with the collective-bargaining agreement. That knowledge is crucial to the Senators, who have 15 unrestricted free agents and need to craft a strategy to keep as many as they can under the new salary cap. -- Other names being bandied about include former Mount St. Charles star Brian Lawton, currently a player agent; Steve Tambellini, the assistant GM in Vancouver, and Rick Dudley, formerly a GM in Ottawa and Tampa Bay and currently the director of player personnel with the Chicago Blackhawks. -- JOE McDONALD |
