Sergei Samsonov has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for centers Marty Reasoner and Yan Stastny.

The Bruins newcomers will not be available for tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens, so Ben Walter has been recalled from Providence.

They could have called up the entire Providence club, because this team played with absolutely no life--or passion. Or perhaps it's just a simple lack of talent.

Isn't Keith Carney from Rhode Island? Didn't he go to Mount? If so, you wouldn't know it from the wire story on the hockey trades this week. Neither would you know that many of the other players traded once played for the Bruins (Sean O'Donnell, Sean Brown, Jamie Rivers, etc.).

A lot of newspapers try to localize their wire stories as much as possible, and it would be great if the Journal did the same. This isn't the first time that news about Carney has been buried, which I think is a shame. Hockey is popular in Rhode Island, and fans here are proud of the guys from here who make it to the NHL.
