"He was certainly one of the reasons I came here," said Brian Leetch. "All the best players are young players and he was leading that list for sure. "It's an emotional day for everybody. Joe has been the face of this franchise for a while and he was a good teammate."
"This is a professional sport and I'm going to go out there and play hard," said Glen Murray, who has been Thornton’s go-to guy. "Yeah, we're in shock and we didn't want to see him go but it's done and we have move on."
"The message we got was this was done to make the team better," said Andrew Raycroft. "I don't think they want to put all of this on Joe, and it's definitely unfair to put this on Joe because he has been our best player this year without a doubt. I hope people don't think this is his fault in any way.”
"It's sinking in now," added Raycroft. "Now it's definitely happened. Joe was not on the ice today and it will sink in more when we get on the road."
"I feel worse than when I got traded," said Brad Boyes. "We will find out in time [if this trade works]. It can go one way or the other, but it was a hefty price to pay."
I was glad Thorton was traded,he may be a good goal scorer but I always thought he was a puck hog and dirty with his stick. He reminded me of another dirty prolific player,Bobby Clarke.

The Bruins are dumping Thornton and his salary. Tney are not committed to winning.
I am glad I became a Flyers Fan. At least they are trying to win a Cup.

I have been a passionate Bruins fan for the majority of my life. This has been the most shocking thing I've ever experienced as far as hockey goes. I am very sad to see Joe Thornton go and I cannot believe it has been eight years since he began his career in Boston. However tonight was one of the most exciting games I've ever watched. They shut down the best team in the league. I hope this trade will be a positive thing for the Bruins as so far it has been a very rough decision.

What's with all the Boston sportswriters dumping on Thornton for having no heart or passion for the game and being a poor leader, now that he's left Boston? Is this sour grapes, or did they make the same complaints while he was still there?

Further proof that this team's management has no commitment to winning -- and, no less, in one of the very best markets for hockey! At least we used to try to be the third best team in the league. Now it's wherever the chips may fall, put fannies in the seats, and maybe by the grace of God make the play-offs. It's sad to see the Big Bad Bruins of yore reduced to this.
