Player reaction to The Trade

"He was certainly one of the reasons I came here," said Brian Leetch. "All the best players are young players and he was leading that list for sure. "It's an emotional day for everybody. Joe has been the face of this franchise for a while and he was a good teammate."

"This is a professional sport and I'm going to go out there and play hard," said Glen Murray, who has been Thornton’s go-to guy. "Yeah, we're in shock and we didn't want to see him go but it's done and we have move on."

"The message we got was this was done to make the team better," said Andrew Raycroft. "I don't think they want to put all of this on Joe, and it's definitely unfair to put this on Joe because he has been our best player this year without a doubt. I hope people don't think this is his fault in any way.”

"It's sinking in now," added Raycroft. "Now it's definitely happened. Joe was not on the ice today and it will sink in more when we get on the road."

"I feel worse than when I got traded," said Brad Boyes. "We will find out in time [if this trade works]. It can go one way or the other, but it was a hefty price to pay."
