Beer news we've been waiting for

Years ago, an Irish friend told me that Guinness is indeed good for you, as the advertisements would say.
He told me his grandfather was even given Guinness in the hospital to help him heal.
I figured he was pouring me a bit of blarney, but now researchers at Oregon State University say that the hops in beer contain a compound that can protect cells from damage.

The researchers say porter, stout and ale have much higher levels of the compound, called flavonoids, than lagers and pilsners. Isn't Guinness the stoutest of stouts?
The Chicago Sun-Times' Web site, suntimes.com, announces the story with this clever headline, "Ales could be good for what ails you."
Still, the researchers say more study is needed. I suspect they could find plenty of people to help them with their research.

off topic - Narragansett Beer

Anyone try Narragansett Beer lately? I saw the billboard and decided to try it. I remeber my father used to drink it when I was a kid. The stuff is horrible. Turns out it is brewed in Rochester, NY under license. I'm sticking with Coors Light, Foster's, and Sam Adams.
