Beer news we've been waiting for

Years ago, an Irish friend told me that Guinness is indeed good for you, as the advertisements would say.
He told me his grandfather was even given Guinness in the hospital to help him heal.
I figured he was pouring me a bit of blarney, but now researchers at Oregon State University say that the hops in beer contain a compound that can protect cells from damage.

Thanks, Sarah, John, Iggy and BucketBrewer for your input on The Great International Beer Festival. Very helpful information. The comments are attached to the previous entry for anyone who hasn't seen them and is considering checking out the festival on Saturday.

And, yes, Jack, Narragansett Beer is still around. Business columnist Neil Downing wrote this summer about a Middletown entrepreneur's efforts to revive the once-popular regional beer.

Fellow beer blogger Frank Carnevale has recently sampled some Narragansett. I plan some research, too. (Aren't we dedicated.) Frank and I will get back to you soon with our thoughts.

Beer lovers bound for Providence

Organizers of the 12th Great International Beer Festival expect more than 4,500 beer lovers to visit the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence on November 12th to sample offerings from more than 30 brewers.
