« Weather Service issues fire warning | Today | Baltimore man held without bail in girlfriend's death » March 20, 2006Hit-and-run suspect to be arraigned this morningPROVIDENCE -- A North Smithfield woman charged in a fatal hit-and-run is scheduled to appear in District Court this morning. Lori Benoit, 39, is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. Police say she struck a group of pedestrians early Saturday morning who were standing outside a car parked in the breakdown lane of Route 44. Two people -- Jason Roy, 36, of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and Robert George, 36, of Glocester -- were killed and two others were injured. Three hours after the accident a North Smithfield police officer spotted a Dodge sedan that matched the description of the car that struck the pedestrians. Police responded to the scene, 220 Woonsocket Hill Rd., the home of Benoit. She was arrested and held without bail over the weekend. To watch your sister in a hospital bed for 46 days bags of blood on both sides and having her leg in traction two surguries later, hoping she may one day walk again and her 2 year old son watching his mommy not understanding why she cant walk or even get out of bed.I hope this women knows how many lifes she destroyed by her foolish acts they are not mistakes seeing this is the second time she is being charged with a D.U.I., I cant even begin to tell you how my family sufferd with my sister but it is ALITTLE easer knowing her son will have a mommy and we will have a sister,daughter,and auntie while others have a plot to come and ask "why god did our son,daddy,uncle,brother"etc etc have to die so soon in life i can only say thank you god for sparing my sister for me my life would never be the same with out her she is my bestfriend and life would not be the same without her.I do send my best regaurds to the family who lost the loves ones,as does my family we are very sorry for your lost godbless your family and the 8yr old lil girl who now has to grow up without a father all because of a women who had no cares and decided to drive drunk.
