Jeff Kent denied that being a liability on defense was what has prevented him from playing.

"One of the biggest farces as long as I've ever played is the range stat," Kent said.

He reasoned that a smarter veteran player like himself with understanding of positioning would be able reach a grounder just as quickly as a younger and quicker player.
