For those who still think of Kobe Bryant as the aloof, detached superstar he was portrayed to be earlier in his career, here's a video shot by The Press-Enterprise's Mirjam Swanson from Wednesday's practice that may change your mind.
Bryant was leaning against a wall talking to a few reporters after practice when Sasha Vujacic concluded his shooting drill by firing up a 50-foot hook shot that glanced off the rim. Bryant scoffed that the shot wasn't even close, practically a direct challenge to a perfectionist like Vujacic who does extra shooting daily after every practice.
For what felt like an eternity, Vujacic fired up shot after shot from the same spot on the floor, with Bryant egging him on after each errant attempt. A sample of Bryant's ribbing: "That camera is going to run out of film" in reference to Swanson, "This is like watching 'Titanic -- the uncut version," and my personal favorite, "The first assist of his career" when Vujacic's shot lands in the arms of his rebounder in the lane.
Finally, on the 36th attempt, Vujacic swishes the shot, raises his arms above his head and practically jumps into Bryant's arms before leaving the gym. "See, this is what I gotta deal with every day," Bryant says, a wide smile on his face.
