On Friday, Greg Maddux will make his first start for the Dodgers this season after being traded from the Padres, with whom he was 6-9 with a 3.99 earned-run average. "He give the manager a day off," manager Joe Torre said. "Not that he's an automatic win, but ... he knows what he's doing." Said Russell Martin, echoing many of his teammates' comments about the savvy veteran pitcher who helped lead the Dodgers to the playoffs a couple years ago: "He knows so much about the game, if you just sit next to him during a game, you can ask him anything he's got all the answers. I mean he throws 82 mph and he knows how to get guys out, so he's knows something that some people don't for sure." Maddux will have a chance to pick up his 354th career victory tomorrow, which would tie him with Roger Clemens for eighth on the all-time wins list. -- Mirjam Swanson 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
