The Clips' second-round selection of DeAndre Jordan, the 7-foot center from Texas A&M, could be considered a steal, a project, or a risk. Or all three. Jordan started 21 of his 35 games with the Aggies last season, averaging 20.1 minutes, 7.9 points and 6.0 rebounds a game. He's got physical gifts, including a long wingspan, athleticism, great hands, and an ability to finish, but he's real raw, not fundamentally sound and needs to get stronger. And there were questions as a collegian about his maturity level. He turns 20 on July 21, but at this point is being compared to a young Andrew Bynum--and that's the best case scenario. The Clippers shouldn't and probably won't expect him to contribute much right away, but if they handle him properly they could, indeed, have a steal. |
