Angels Win Behind Lackey, Guerrero, Izturis

Maicer Izturis, John Lackey and Vladimir Guerrero keyed Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Rays.

Izturis delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single in the seventh inning off Rays ace Scott Kazmir.

Lackey allowed just two runs in 7 1/3 innings, striking out seven and continuing his impressive start to the season.

And Guerrero continued to break out of his spring freeze with his third homer in the past four games.

Izturis said he took note from Kazmir about how he was going to be pitched in his game-changing at-bat.

"I noticed that he's always very aggressive," he said through an interpreter. "He threw me a lot of fastballs early in the count. I noticed that also that with guys that could do some damage on the bases he threw a lot of fastballs. The last pitch I saw a change up I was able to adjust. I noticed mainly how he pitched to guys like myself through the whole day and he kept the same aggressive style."

Lackey shrugged off his terrific start - 3-1, with a 1.83 ERA in six games.

"It's kind of been necessary. We've been in a lot of close games," he said.

And, Guerrero said some extra work in the cages with Mickey Hatcher has helped him bat .440 this month with three homers and seven RBI.

"I'm thinking more up the middle, that's one thing Mickey and I have talked about," he said through an interpeter. "I've spent more time in the batting cage, hitting off the tee, which has been helping me keep my eye on the ball longer."
